Every few weeks, months or years we go and spend or even splurge on ourselves. We give ourselves a better look or new knowledge or a new skill. Why do we do that? Because though essentially we are fine, even happy with our good old selves, there is the excitement that adding something new brings that makes life, well exciting.

Have you ever thought this could work just as well with your good old car? That there are products available such as body kits that could transform your car? Yes it is still reliable and the performance is still great. It now has a personality of its own and is almost a family member. But let us face it, the last time it set your pulse racing was years ago.

Here is the good news. You can bring back the excitement almost as good as when you first bought it. Give you car a smashing new look, consider body kits. Car body kits can make a 90’s car outshine the next car that is going to be launched.

If you didn’t opt for a body kit when you first bought your car, or the smart body kits available now were just not available then, go for one now.

Body kits cost nothing compared to a new car and will change your car’s personality dramatically.

You can find information on car aftermarket products to rejuvenate your car including a great range of body kits at www.ilovebodykits.com.

Do not worry that your car maybe too old to be rejuvenated. If it still gets you from A to B reliably then it deserves to get a new body kit after all these years.

And the great thing is you can find full body kits for a wide range of car models here.

So even if you have a car doing faithful duty for a decade or more you can still give it a new look with a great body kit. And add excitement to your own life.

Body kits make your car exciting

Owning and maintaining a car is a job that carries some responsibility. Responsibility starts from the day you decide to buy a car. You would aim to choose a well engineered car that gives optimum mileage. It should be able to safely negotiate traffic on the road, even heavy traffic. The car itself and its aftermarket products contribute to its utility. Car body kits come almost at the end of your quest.

Body kits complement other visible parts of the car. You will be surprised to know that by smartly choosing body kits you can give an entirely new look to your car. The look that you want and others will appreciate. It will bear your stamp. And your car will not be lost amongst numerous others.

Car body kits are fitted on the exterior of your car. That is they are fitted on the front, on the rear, and on the sides of your car. If there be any impact from an outside object they will bear the brunt. Although they may not do much in case of a high velocity impact but for minor bumps and scratches they serve well to protect your car.

While driving, body kits, if well designed, will allow the on rushing air to flow in a streamlined manner around the car. That will reduce resistance offered by the air. It will save fuel to some extent.

Even if you have chosen proper body kits, but if those are ill fitted, you may not be putting them to proper use. It may even be dangerous. An expert well versed in the job should therefore be engaged for the job of fitting them.

Car body kits are not very expensive. Basic body kits can be bought even if your budget is small. In fact one reason for the popularity of body kits is that they are an inexpensive way to add excitement to your car.

Looking for body kits and buying them is not at all bothersome. You need not survey various auto stores for this purpose. You can find more about them on www.ilovebodykits.com. You can also buy them on line. Ultimately you will have a car of which you can be proud. It will underline your presence.

Get Higher Gas Mileage by Maintaining Your Car ( Part 2 of 2 )

Posted by Lexus Fast | Aftermarket | Saturday 16 May 2009 3:57 pm

104inc.com
Now every 3,000-Miles or Three Months which ever comes first take your car in to get it serviced:  Go ahead and change your engine oil and have them do a complete check of all of your fluids plus your tire pressure to make sure that the other fluids are good and that the tire pressure is set prefect also just in case you have a nail or a problem then they will find it out at the mechanic shop, or if you work on your car yourself to make sure to do a complete check list on it.

Now oil and transmission Fluid are one of the main things for the car and the most expensive parts to be changed.  So it is a good idea to make sure you keep your car maintained so that you will not have any problems in the future and to prevent expensive repairs when your car reaches a higher mileage.

Every Six Months: I would defiantly check my windshield wipers, since it is rubber the sun and smog will ware the rubber and it will not work properly.  Or if you decide not to change it during the summer time defiantly change it when winter comes around because it will rain a lot and you don’t want to get stuck somewhere also you want to be safe and not get in an accident for something that will not cost you a lot.  I do recommend that you change the wiper with the original ones from the dealer because they work the best, they last the longest, and they won’t make any noise or fall apart after so many months.  The reason I say not to get aftermarket is because they will change the original wiper and put aftermarket on and then you will use it and later find out that it is not working that good.

You can also find really good articles and info on 104Inc or you can also go to 104Automotive.com or 10mechanic.com and more at 104Inc.com you can find anything you need in your daily life.

Now overall there are 3 factory services that should be done at certain mileage.

First one is a Minor Service done every 7,500 miles:  This service is basically an oil change, rotate tires, ck all fluids, and ck the tire pressure.  Usually the dealers or certain mechanic shops will also steam clean the engine so that it stays clean.

Second is an Intermediate Service done every 15,000 miles:  this service has everything that the Minor Service has plus on certain models you would change the transmission fluid + Valve Cover Gaskets.

Third is a Major Service done every 30,000 miles.  This has everything that the Intermediate Service has plus depending on the make and model of your car things will be different.  But in general you would change the Distributor Cap & Rotor + Spark Plugs + Air Filter + Fuel Filter + Coolant Flush + Brake Fluid Flush.

Now basically this is a good overall procedure of what you would have to do to keep your car in tip top shape so that it runs at its best performance and you get the best gas mileage on the car.  But the main thing is that the car will be reliable and won’t leave you stranded in the middle of no where.

Rev and Bootstraps: Optimizing Your Car’s Looks and Performance

Posted by Lexus Fast | Aftermarket | Friday 15 May 2009 9:32 am

Jovir
Getting bored with driving your car lately? Perhaps it’s time to consider accessory additions or replacements. Here’s a few tips to help you rev up your ride:

The Interior

To give comfort and flair to your ride, you can load up on new aftermarket accessories readily available at your local car shop from various makers with impressive and stylish designs. Common updates for the interior include:

Carpets/ floor mats, Seat covers, Headrests, Moon light, Strobe lighting, Neon lights, Mobile phone and drink holders, Seat belt harness and pads, CD Organizers, Cockpit films, Dash kits, Door guards, Gauge facers, Pedal pads, Shift pads, Steering wheels, Steering wheel covers, Steering wheel accessories and Sunshades.

Let’s discuss some of the most important upgrades mentioned above. Carpets and mats are very important for your car as they help protect the floor against the entry of dust, rust and moisture which can easily eat up your floor without you knowing it. Seat covers on the other hand will help protect your seats while making them look more stylish. You can even have your covers as the highlight of your planned theme for the interior!

Steering wheels or steering wheel covers will provide you better grip and handling on the wheel. Shift knobs look trendy while providing an improved grip. Pedal pads ensure better grip while adding accent to your cockpit. Seat belt harness and pads may not only look pleasing to the eyes but will help ensure that you and your passengers are safely and comfortably held to the seats when needed. Steering wheel accessories allow you to integrate important triggers and buttons into your steering wheel for ease and convenience. A Custom dash kit is one great way to compliment your interior theme and it usually comes in numerous finishes such as wood veneer and carbon fiber.

The Exterior

Now that we’re done with the interior, we will now give your exterior a make over. Consider the following upgrades the next time you visit the auto shop:

Paint, grille, billet door handles, wings, spoilers, headlights, tail lights and rims. For a really enhanced look, you can also go for a whole new body kit installation.

In a summary, select the best type of paint (Acrylic or Urethane) and finish your car in a color that’s trendy or in tune with your taste and personality. Look for an aftermarket grille which is an upgraded version from your car’s brand or something that is custom designed. Spoilers will improve your car’s aerodynamics while giving it a fuller edge and design. A change in your headlight, tail light casing and bulb colors will also make your car attractive, not to mention improve your view. An upgrade in Mags/ Rims will definitely enhance your car’s profile as well as its grip on the road. Select from various finishes such as chrome, stainless-steel and alloy, that suit your taste. Always remember to compliment a rim change with the appropriate tires. Body kit installations are available at specialized car shops, look for one in your area that caters to quality personalized designs or is the town popular so you’re really getting your money’s worth.

Under the hood

Engine – Have your engine overhauled to bring it back to pristine condition or consider installing a performance chip to boost it even further. Chips can easily be fitted with fuel injection and an Electronic Control Unit (ECU). Installing one often results with a 10-15% power boost in regular engines and a 10% horsepower increase in turbo engines.

Brakes– You need to improve your brakes for better handling and safety. Install performance pads and upgrade performance discs. Performance brake pads enhance your braking power and can withstand much more abuse than their regular counterparts.

Air Filter- Replace your air filter or the filter element in the air filter. For fuel injection engines, enhance the airflow by removing the original box containing the air filter and hoses and then put an induction kit in place. It looks like a cone filter that can be attached directly to the air flow meter, making a more direct and smooth airflow to the engine.

Exhaust – Always see to it that nothing blocks the way of gases on their way out for greater power. You can replace the original exhaust with aftermarket assortments out in car shops. Simply select one that fits your taste.

Suspension-
You might want to lower your springs for a leaner look and get a better grip for your car. Springs reduce roll when taking corners and will give your tires better contact with the road. Although you might encounter slight problems when driving over small bumps, these springs will come in handy as they will stiffen and reduce roll when you take on corners. You can also employ shock absorbers and up-rated bushes to upgrade your suspension.

Simply follow these simple tips and you’ll be zooming off to a brand new ride. Just don’t forget to buckle up while you’re at it.

How the Weather Can Influence the Accessories on Your Car

Posted by Lexus Fast | Aftermarket | Friday 15 May 2009 2:56 am

Mike Briglia
Here in the USA it seems that depending on what city you are influences what car accessories are actually popular to you and your friends. And a lot of it actually has to do with the weather.

Case and point, in the Ohio Valley and the northeastern states like Pennsylvania, New York or New Jersey, one of the most popular truck accessories on the market would be the truck tonneau cover. This is truck accessory purchase is totally weather related because people in the northeast have to put up with a lot of cold, wet and snowy weather in the winter and want to try to keep their truck beds dry if they can, and keep the snow out as well. Yes, a tonneau cover looks nice, and yes it might help you save a few gallons of gas on a nice long trip, but the main reason that customers ask for the tonneau cover would be to keep out the weather.

In the southern states like Florida, Texas or Arizona they have different problems to deal with. The sun! Can you imagine having too much sun? I know its hard to do, but when thinking about what auto accessories you want to add to your car or truck it has a lot to do with it. The sun can really beat / burn things up if left outside every day.

In the southern states the most popular accessories that people add to their trucks are the stainless steel accessories including nerf bars, rocker panel moldings, billet grilles and truck bed rails. Why? Stainless steel wont burn, deteriorate, shrink, crack, fade or anything else like that. Thats one of the reasons that the southern folks like to dress up their trucks with chrome accessories.

Most of the time the influence starts at the dealer level, being maybe your local Chevy, Dodge or Ford dealerships in your area. They seem to be the guys that would initially test aftermarket accessories like these on your truck, and after they dress up and sell a lot of them in town, the potential new customers see these vehicles driving down the road and actually start calling the dealers asking for the parts they see.

Sometimes they dont even know what to ask for, for example a stainless steel nerf bar is sometimes referred to as a chrome nerf bar, a chrome tube rail, side bars or side steps, but many suppliers of aftermarket accessories are well versed in synonyms in the business.

Oem Bmw Parts Vs. Aftermarket Bmw Auto Parts

Posted by Lexus Fast | Aftermarket | Sunday 10 May 2009 11:46 pm

Max Rossi
If you own a BMW chances are you have scoured the internet searching for great deals on BMW parts and accessories. Who can blame you? BMW’s are infamous for their great handling, but with great handling comes the associated wear and tear of the suspension and steering parts (ie BMW control arms and thrust arms). When these parts begin to wear, its not surprising when you get an outrageous quote from a dealership for hundreds, if not several thousands of dollars to replace these steering and suspension parts. I’m just using BMW control arms as an example, but its across the board for any European cars such as Mercedes, Audi, Volvo, and Volkswagen.

You have now made a decision to do your own due diligence and attempt to source the parts outside of a dealership to save you a little bit of money. You will quickly become overwhelmed by the amount of company’s brands and products to choose from and may be confused by the jargon used in the aftermarket and OEM parts industry. Terms such as genuine, aftermarket, OEM, OES, and OEA. I will end all of this confusion right here and right now.

Genuine BMW Parts: Genuine BMW parts come in Genuine BMW packaging. Plain and simple. If its not in a Genuine BMW box, or has a BMW stamp on it, it is not considered a Genuine BMW Part. Keep in mind BMW does not actually manufacture these parts, they are subcontracted to companies that manufacture the specific product. The company that manufactures the particular part for BMW is called the Original Equipment Manufacturer.

OEM BMW Parts: OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. It is essentially the same product as a Genuine BMW Part, however the manufacturer has sold the product in their own packaging instead of sending it directly to BMW to be packaged under the BMW name.

OEA/ OES BMW Parts: Stands for either Original Equipment Aftermarket or Original equipment supplier. A company may manufacture genuine parts for Audi, Volkswagen, Mercedes, or other car maker, but if they have never manufactured a part for BMW, they will never be considered a genuine BMW part or OEM BMW part.

Aftermarket BMW Part: An aftermarket BMW part is manufactured by a company that has never been contracted by a major car maker to be their Original Equipment manufacturer. Although the company has never been contracted by a major auto maker, the parts are made to fit and perform as well as the OEM since they are generally produced with the same materials and machinery.

Our purpose here is not to be deceitful. As you move down the chain, the instances of coming across a BMW part that is inferior in quality will increase. Now that you are an educated consumer you can use this information along with checking the warranty policy and credentials of the company to make the best decision along the way.

How Aftermarket Auto Accessories Are Changing The Automotive Industry

Posted by Lexus Fast | Aftermarket | Saturday 9 May 2009 7:05 am

Gregg Hall
Back in the day the only accessories that you would be able to find were maybe some bumper stickers. Today there are all kinds of accessories for your car. You have everything from the outside of the car to the inside of the car and there are so many things that you can buy for your car. You have everything from neons being under the car to neons being under your seats in your car. You can put extra speakers in your car like subwoofers and amps. There is no limit to what you can do with your car and accessories.

You can even put logos across the back of your rear window to show love for your favorite sports team while you are tailgating. You can get one of those whole logos that take up the whole rear window but don’t take away your ability to see out of it. You just go to a car specialties shop to get whatever else you need.

Many people basically live in their cars so they already have many accessories but other people who just use their cars to go to and from work may not have a single thing to show. Some people that don’t have any accessories and have a long drive to work may like music. They should have some type of satellite radio or something shouldn’t they? Yes they should and nobody should have to go without customizing their own car.

You can put about just anything in the car you want as far as entertainment goes. You can put TVs, game consoles, and other things in the car. You can put DVD players in the car as well as VCRs so you can watch all of your favorite shows and movies in your car. You are not limited to what you can do with your car. You can do anything you want with your car all you need to do is buy the accessories and then start adding them to your car.

Most of the newer cars today like the ford models are coming out with satellite radios in them stock. So if you wanted something else for your car or truck you should be able to find it with ease and be able to install it as well. Many things that you can buy as accessories come with directions so that you can install your accessories yourself but on the other hand if you cannot install them yourself you can hire someone to help you.

The great thing about auto accessories in general is that you can use them anywhere as long as you are in your car and the motor is running.

Everyone would have loved to have had a TV and a DVD player in the car while their parents drove but that’s not how everyone lived. Now you can, you can put anything you want into your car and you can do it now. You don’t have to wait for anyone you can just go buy your accessories for cheap and then get them installed and start using them right away.

Buying Auto or Car Parts at Affordable Prices

Posted by Lexus Fast | Aftermarket | Friday 8 May 2009 6:47 pm

Amit Kothiyal
Owning a vehicle is almost a necessity in today’s world but having one sometimes can be expensive, especially when it comes to used auto or car parts. From time to time, you’re going to have a problem with your car and a large portion of the expense of taking care of that problem is buying the right car parts for the job. The good news is you can save money in a couple of ways.

Buying Used Car & Auto Parts

If you’re on a tight budget, one option you might want to consider is purchasing used auto parts for the vehicle. The savings will vary depending on the part but in some cases you’ll be able to cut your expenses by 30 to 50%. One downside is determining the best way to find these parts. Although you could stick to the junkyards and dealers in your area, they may not always have what you need. Using a search service online that would allow you to connect to a network of potential suppliers will greatly increase your chances of finding what you need.

Buying Wholesale Car Parts

Basically, if you purchase wholesale car or auto parks, you are paying the same price as the auto parts stores themselves. The manufacturers sell the parts to the retailers at a lower price than what you would pay in the store so the retailers can increase the price in order to make a profit. When you buy the parts directly from a wholesaler, you’re automatically going to be saving a lot of money on the parts you get. Again, the savings is going to vary but you’ll have the best luck locating these wholesalers in the auto industry by searching online.

Buying Replacement / Aftermarket Parts

You can save a lot of money even up to 70% on purchasing aftermarket auto parts instead of OEM parts. OEM parts usually are purchased through local dealership and they charge a lot to install the new parts as well. It’s a good idea to purchase replacement parts as it is highly cost effective.

Finding Both in One

The best hope you have for success in saving money on these parts is going to be locating a site that provides the network and that operates as wholesalers. Search for a site that offers wide network of car parts, truck parts for various models at affordable prices and full online support.

Auto Repair Estimates And Car Repair Prices – The Real Information To Avoid Car Repair Scams

Posted by Lexus Fast | Aftermarket | Tuesday 5 May 2009 10:02 pm

Theodore Olson
Worrying whether or not you were overcharged for your car repair is an awful feeling. There’s tons of advice on how to avoid getting ripped-off, but few discuss the actual car repair prices. We really need to look at the charges on a car repair estimate or auto repair invoice to determine if we’re paying too much.

The focus needs to shift from giving outdated and ineffective advice to addressing the “actual” and “specific” charges. Are they legitimate charges? Can they be justified by industry guidelines?

Now car repair estimates can be confusing. So let’s break it down to get a better idea if your auto repair shop is billing you appropriately.

First, a glossary of terms is in order, as the auto industry has a language of its own…

Aftermarket Parts: parts not made by the manufacturer.

MSRP: Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price

OEM: Original Equipment Manufacturer. Manufacturer approved parts designed specifically for your vehicle.

TSBs: Technical Service Bulletins. Notes and instructions provided by the manufacturer for known and specific concerns(they are not recalls).

Flat Fees: services such as alignments that don’t get broken down into parts, tax, labor

Miscellaneous Charges: these can include, but are not limited to shop supplies – rags, chemicals, hazardous waste disposal fees, waste oil …etc.

Labor Rate: a repair center’s hourly charge to service your vehicle

Labor Time: the amount of time or hours determined that it will take to fix your vehicle

Labor Description: the step-by-step written details of repairs and/or services

Ok, let’s look at the Anatomy of an Auto Repair Estimate:

There are six basic components to a car repair estimate

1) Customer/Vehicle Information

2) Parts

3) Labor

4) Miscellaneous Charges

5) Flat Fees

6) Summary of Charges

Customer and Vehicle Information

Using a generic “top down” style estimate, the top portion simply contains your personal information and your vehicle’s specifics: year, make, model, mileage…etc, as well as your request or concern.

We also want find the shop’s labor rate. The labor rate is critical in determining if you paid too much. Most repair centers don’t list the labor rate. We’ll discuss why shortly.

Auto Parts

Parts are listed usually with a brief description, as well as the quantity, and the price. There are three types of parts: OEM (parts made by or for a manufacturer). These are the parts installed by a dealer, although many local shops use OEM parts too.

Aftermarket parts are non OEM parts, and there are various degrees of quality, depending on the brand and where they’re made – China versus USA, for example.

Then there are Used parts purchased from a salvage yard.

To determine if you paid too much for parts, first find out what type of parts are being used. With OEM parts, you don’t want to pay more than MSRP, although most people do without realizing it. Premium aftermarket parts are similarly priced across brands, although beware not to pay more than MSRP, which again, many folks do. Used part prices are all over the place, so pick the price in the middle.

Auto Repair Labor

Labor is billed in tenths. So 1.0 equals 1 hour. 1.5 equals an hour and a half.

Labor rates range from $60 to $100 per hour at local repair shops and $80 to $140 per hour at the dealer level. Labor times are based off established industry guidelines, which are frequently abused.

If you don’t see the shop’s labor rate posted on the car repair invoice, ask your service center for the rate. Repair shops can manipulate the labor rate (among other things) with a labor matrix. Matrix pricing is a complicated and ethically questionable practice discussed at length in RepairTrust literature. What you need to know is that you can pay as high as $150 per hour rather than the posted labor rate of $105 per hour.

To ensure that you’re being charged properly, you’ll want to multiply the number of hours billed (which is also often not posted) by the shop’s labor rate.

Most labor descriptions are poorly written and difficult to understand. So ask questions.

Here’s a “clear” labor description for a 30,000 mile service on a Toyota Camry.

Performed 30,000 mile service per customer request, and in accordance with manufacturer guidelines. Changed oil and filter, installed new air filter, cabin filter and performed all necessary tests, checks, and procedures, including road test (miles 30,123 – 30,125). Performed lubrication services and confirmed proper vehicle operation. Set tire pressures, and checked fluids, belts and hoses. Note: vehicle is pulling slightly left. Needs alignment

Miscellaneous Charges

The bulk of your car repair invoice will be parts and labor, but we can’t forget about Miscellaneous Charges. These charges can include, but are not limited to, shop supplies – rags, chemicals, hazardous waste, disposal fees, waste oil …etc. The latter of these may be billed out separately in a summary at the bottom of your repair invoice.

Very few of these “extras” are actually used during regular repairs. Miscellaneous charges are calculated off the amount of labor hours billed, not the amount of miscellaneous items used.

Flat Fees

Flat fees can be another very tricky area. Flat fees are services, such as an alignment, which don’t get broken down into parts, tax and labor. This makes it difficult to determine the real and fair price. On the plus side, most flat fees are competitively priced.

Be warned however, another term for Flat Fee is called Menu Selling. In other words, you might see Tune Up: $99.99 or Transmission Flush: $89.99. Follow your manufacturer’s recommendations only, not a dealer’s or repair shop’s menu.

Summary of Charges

The last part of an auto repair estimate is the summary of charges. It’s usually found in the bottom right hand corner of the invoice. Check it against the charges above to ensure that it all adds up mathematically, as well as logically.

This basic estimate outline may differ from your particular invoice, which may have other categories such as “Sublet” or “HazMat.”

A sublet charge is added when your auto repair shop uses another vender to fix or repair your car, such as a glass company that replaces your windshield.

A HazMat charge may include waste oil or other disposal fees. Just make sure that the charges are warranted, as again, they too are often calculated off the labor time rather than actual need.

In sum, understanding the “actual” charges, asking the right questions, and breaking down your auto repair costs is the best way to avoid paying excessive car repair prices.

Car Routine Maintenance for Neophytes

Posted by Lexus Fast | Aftermarket | Monday 4 May 2009 6:36 am

Evander Klum
Your car is a very important investment that you would never want it to experience a breakdown especially if it is new and you are also new as a driver.

Aside from your parents’ pieces of advice on road safety, it is also better to read some tips on the magazines or on the internet perhaps. Your parents may be experts on raising kids but they may not be when it comes to vehicular concerns. There are several write ups on car safety, repair and maintenance that you as a neophyte on the road should always keep in mind.

Examples of these tips are as follows:

Read your owner’s manual first. Written there is everything about your car that you need to know and remember always. From the auto parts to the proper repair and maintenance, all are written there. It is also important to obey the manufacturer’s recommended service schedule as written there.

To ensure excellent engine performance, at a good repair shop, have your engine drivability problems corrected. These problems include hard starts, rough idling, stalling, diminished power, etc. It is also much better to replace dirty air, fuel and PCV fuels to ensure a real quality engine performance.

In order to keep moisture from freezing in the fuel line, place a bottle of fuel de-icer in your fuel tank once a month. Remember that moisture formation is prevented in a gas tank that is always filled.

The oil and filter concerns are also specified in your owner’s manual. Change them according to the stated schedule. Most often, they are changed at least every 3,000 miles. This is so if driving is mostly stop-and-go or consists of regular short trips.

Flush and refill the cooling system as recommended in the manual. Needed to be inspected periodically are the level, condition, and the concentration of the coolant. The usually recommended concentration is a 50/50 mix of anti-freeze and water. If you are checking this part by yourself, do not remove the radiator cap until the engine has thoroughly cooled. Let the tightness and condition of drive belts, clamps, and hoses be checked by a reliable auto technician.

To achieve further comfort, the heater and defroster should be in good working condition.

Old windshield blades must be replaced. Buying rubber-clad or winter blades so that ice will not build up is a must in a winter season.

The brakes should be regularly checked. Consult the manual if you can replace the original ones with other brands such as EBC brakes.

Inspect the battery through professional equipment. This is the only appropriate way to detect a weak one. Remove the corrosion from posts and cable connections. Clean the entire surface. Make sure all connections are tightened. These should be your routine. Also check the level of fluid monthly if battery caps are removable.

Removal of cables might damage or loose data or codes on some newer vehicles. For further guidance, it is always safe to check your manual. Contact to acids is dangerous. Avoid contact with corrosive deposits and battery acid by wearing an eye protection and rubber gloves.

Before going out with the car, check all lights and bulb. Burned out bulbs must be replaced immediately. All lenses should be free from road grime. For simple lights cleaning, a dry rag can be used.

Examine the exhaust system for leaks through putting your vehicle on a lift. See to it that the exhaust trunk and floorboards do not have small holes. And take note of this: any sweat in the exhaust is deadly. To avoid this, regularly check the system.

Worn tires are also dangerous. Regularly check them to avoid short tread life, uneven wearing, and cupping. The sidewall should also be checked. Tire pressure should be checked once a month, but be sure tires are in cool condition before checking them. The manufacturer’s recommended rotation must be followed. And remember to always bring with you your spare that is in good condition. The jack, which should also be always present in your tools area, should also be in good condition.

And lastly, in case of emergency, you need to have some equipment to back you up. Always bring with you gloves, boots, blankets, flares, a small shovel, sand or kitty litter, tire chains, a flashlight, and a cell phone. This will further ensure your safety especially that you are a neophyte on the road.

Reading some materials on automotive can further add to your knowledge on cars.
