Oem Bmw Parts Vs. Aftermarket Bmw Auto Parts

If you own a BMW chances are you have scoured the internet searching for great deals on BMW parts and accessories. Who can blame you? BMW’s are infamous for their great handling, but with great handling comes the associated wear and tear of the suspension and steering parts (ie BMW control arms and thrust arms). When these parts begin to wear, its not surprising when you get an outrageous quote from a dealership for hundreds, if not several thousands of dollars to replace these steering and suspension parts. I’m just using BMW control arms as an example, but its across the board for any European cars such as Mercedes, Audi, Volvo, and Volkswagen.

You have now made a decision to do your own due diligence and attempt to source the parts outside of a dealership to save you a little bit of money. You will quickly become overwhelmed by the amount of company’s brands and products to choose from and may be confused by the jargon used in the aftermarket and OEM parts industry. Terms such as genuine, aftermarket, OEM, OES, and OEA. I will end all of this confusion right here and right now.

Genuine BMW Parts: Genuine BMW parts come in Genuine BMW packaging. Plain and simple. If its not in a Genuine BMW box, or has a BMW stamp on it, it is not considered a Genuine BMW Part. Keep in mind BMW does not actually manufacture these parts, they are subcontracted to companies that manufacture the specific product. The company that manufactures the particular part for BMW is called the Original Equipment Manufacturer.

OEM BMW Parts: OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. It is essentially the same product as a Genuine BMW Part, however the manufacturer has sold the product in their own packaging instead of sending it directly to BMW to be packaged under the BMW name.

OEA/ OES BMW Parts: Stands for either Original Equipment Aftermarket or Original equipment supplier. A company may manufacture genuine parts for Audi, Volkswagen, Mercedes, or other car maker, but if they have never manufactured a part for BMW, they will never be considered a genuine BMW part or OEM BMW part.

Aftermarket BMW Part: An aftermarket BMW part is manufactured by a company that has never been contracted by a major car maker to be their Original Equipment manufacturer. Although the company has never been contracted by a major auto maker, the parts are made to fit and perform as well as the OEM since they are generally produced with the same materials and machinery.

Our purpose here is not to be deceitful. As you move down the chain, the instances of coming across a BMW part that is inferior in quality will increase. Now that you are an educated consumer you can use this information along with checking the warranty policy and credentials of the company to make the best decision along the way.

How Aftermarket Auto Accessories Are Changing The Automotive Industry

Posted by Lexus Fast | Aftermarket | Saturday 9 May 2009 7:05 am

Gregg Hall
Back in the day the only accessories that you would be able to find were maybe some bumper stickers. Today there are all kinds of accessories for your car. You have everything from the outside of the car to the inside of the car and there are so many things that you can buy for your car. You have everything from neons being under the car to neons being under your seats in your car. You can put extra speakers in your car like subwoofers and amps. There is no limit to what you can do with your car and accessories.

You can even put logos across the back of your rear window to show love for your favorite sports team while you are tailgating. You can get one of those whole logos that take up the whole rear window but don’t take away your ability to see out of it. You just go to a car specialties shop to get whatever else you need.

Many people basically live in their cars so they already have many accessories but other people who just use their cars to go to and from work may not have a single thing to show. Some people that don’t have any accessories and have a long drive to work may like music. They should have some type of satellite radio or something shouldn’t they? Yes they should and nobody should have to go without customizing their own car.

You can put about just anything in the car you want as far as entertainment goes. You can put TVs, game consoles, and other things in the car. You can put DVD players in the car as well as VCRs so you can watch all of your favorite shows and movies in your car. You are not limited to what you can do with your car. You can do anything you want with your car all you need to do is buy the accessories and then start adding them to your car.

Most of the newer cars today like the ford models are coming out with satellite radios in them stock. So if you wanted something else for your car or truck you should be able to find it with ease and be able to install it as well. Many things that you can buy as accessories come with directions so that you can install your accessories yourself but on the other hand if you cannot install them yourself you can hire someone to help you.

The great thing about auto accessories in general is that you can use them anywhere as long as you are in your car and the motor is running.

Everyone would have loved to have had a TV and a DVD player in the car while their parents drove but that’s not how everyone lived. Now you can, you can put anything you want into your car and you can do it now. You don’t have to wait for anyone you can just go buy your accessories for cheap and then get them installed and start using them right away.

Buying Auto or Car Parts at Affordable Prices

Posted by Lexus Fast | Aftermarket | Friday 8 May 2009 6:47 pm

Amit Kothiyal
Owning a vehicle is almost a necessity in today’s world but having one sometimes can be expensive, especially when it comes to used auto or car parts. From time to time, you’re going to have a problem with your car and a large portion of the expense of taking care of that problem is buying the right car parts for the job. The good news is you can save money in a couple of ways.

Buying Used Car & Auto Parts

If you’re on a tight budget, one option you might want to consider is purchasing used auto parts for the vehicle. The savings will vary depending on the part but in some cases you’ll be able to cut your expenses by 30 to 50%. One downside is determining the best way to find these parts. Although you could stick to the junkyards and dealers in your area, they may not always have what you need. Using a search service online that would allow you to connect to a network of potential suppliers will greatly increase your chances of finding what you need.

Buying Wholesale Car Parts

Basically, if you purchase wholesale car or auto parks, you are paying the same price as the auto parts stores themselves. The manufacturers sell the parts to the retailers at a lower price than what you would pay in the store so the retailers can increase the price in order to make a profit. When you buy the parts directly from a wholesaler, you’re automatically going to be saving a lot of money on the parts you get. Again, the savings is going to vary but you’ll have the best luck locating these wholesalers in the auto industry by searching online.

Buying Replacement / Aftermarket Parts

You can save a lot of money even up to 70% on purchasing aftermarket auto parts instead of OEM parts. OEM parts usually are purchased through local dealership and they charge a lot to install the new parts as well. It’s a good idea to purchase replacement parts as it is highly cost effective.

Finding Both in One

The best hope you have for success in saving money on these parts is going to be locating a site that provides the network and that operates as wholesalers. Search for a site that offers wide network of car parts, truck parts for various models at affordable prices and full online support.

Auto Repair Estimates And Car Repair Prices – The Real Information To Avoid Car Repair Scams

Posted by Lexus Fast | Aftermarket | Tuesday 5 May 2009 10:02 pm

Theodore Olson
Worrying whether or not you were overcharged for your car repair is an awful feeling. There’s tons of advice on how to avoid getting ripped-off, but few discuss the actual car repair prices. We really need to look at the charges on a car repair estimate or auto repair invoice to determine if we’re paying too much.

The focus needs to shift from giving outdated and ineffective advice to addressing the “actual” and “specific” charges. Are they legitimate charges? Can they be justified by industry guidelines?

Now car repair estimates can be confusing. So let’s break it down to get a better idea if your auto repair shop is billing you appropriately.

First, a glossary of terms is in order, as the auto industry has a language of its own…

Aftermarket Parts: parts not made by the manufacturer.

MSRP: Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price

OEM: Original Equipment Manufacturer. Manufacturer approved parts designed specifically for your vehicle.

TSBs: Technical Service Bulletins. Notes and instructions provided by the manufacturer for known and specific concerns(they are not recalls).

Flat Fees: services such as alignments that don’t get broken down into parts, tax, labor

Miscellaneous Charges: these can include, but are not limited to shop supplies – rags, chemicals, hazardous waste disposal fees, waste oil …etc.

Labor Rate: a repair center’s hourly charge to service your vehicle

Labor Time: the amount of time or hours determined that it will take to fix your vehicle

Labor Description: the step-by-step written details of repairs and/or services

Ok, let’s look at the Anatomy of an Auto Repair Estimate:

There are six basic components to a car repair estimate

1) Customer/Vehicle Information

2) Parts

3) Labor

4) Miscellaneous Charges

5) Flat Fees

6) Summary of Charges

Customer and Vehicle Information

Using a generic “top down” style estimate, the top portion simply contains your personal information and your vehicle’s specifics: year, make, model, mileage…etc, as well as your request or concern.

We also want find the shop’s labor rate. The labor rate is critical in determining if you paid too much. Most repair centers don’t list the labor rate. We’ll discuss why shortly.

Auto Parts

Parts are listed usually with a brief description, as well as the quantity, and the price. There are three types of parts: OEM (parts made by or for a manufacturer). These are the parts installed by a dealer, although many local shops use OEM parts too.

Aftermarket parts are non OEM parts, and there are various degrees of quality, depending on the brand and where they’re made – China versus USA, for example.

Then there are Used parts purchased from a salvage yard.

To determine if you paid too much for parts, first find out what type of parts are being used. With OEM parts, you don’t want to pay more than MSRP, although most people do without realizing it. Premium aftermarket parts are similarly priced across brands, although beware not to pay more than MSRP, which again, many folks do. Used part prices are all over the place, so pick the price in the middle.

Auto Repair Labor

Labor is billed in tenths. So 1.0 equals 1 hour. 1.5 equals an hour and a half.

Labor rates range from $60 to $100 per hour at local repair shops and $80 to $140 per hour at the dealer level. Labor times are based off established industry guidelines, which are frequently abused.

If you don’t see the shop’s labor rate posted on the car repair invoice, ask your service center for the rate. Repair shops can manipulate the labor rate (among other things) with a labor matrix. Matrix pricing is a complicated and ethically questionable practice discussed at length in RepairTrust literature. What you need to know is that you can pay as high as $150 per hour rather than the posted labor rate of $105 per hour.

To ensure that you’re being charged properly, you’ll want to multiply the number of hours billed (which is also often not posted) by the shop’s labor rate.

Most labor descriptions are poorly written and difficult to understand. So ask questions.

Here’s a “clear” labor description for a 30,000 mile service on a Toyota Camry.

Performed 30,000 mile service per customer request, and in accordance with manufacturer guidelines. Changed oil and filter, installed new air filter, cabin filter and performed all necessary tests, checks, and procedures, including road test (miles 30,123 – 30,125). Performed lubrication services and confirmed proper vehicle operation. Set tire pressures, and checked fluids, belts and hoses. Note: vehicle is pulling slightly left. Needs alignment

Miscellaneous Charges

The bulk of your car repair invoice will be parts and labor, but we can’t forget about Miscellaneous Charges. These charges can include, but are not limited to, shop supplies – rags, chemicals, hazardous waste, disposal fees, waste oil …etc. The latter of these may be billed out separately in a summary at the bottom of your repair invoice.

Very few of these “extras” are actually used during regular repairs. Miscellaneous charges are calculated off the amount of labor hours billed, not the amount of miscellaneous items used.

Flat Fees

Flat fees can be another very tricky area. Flat fees are services, such as an alignment, which don’t get broken down into parts, tax and labor. This makes it difficult to determine the real and fair price. On the plus side, most flat fees are competitively priced.

Be warned however, another term for Flat Fee is called Menu Selling. In other words, you might see Tune Up: $99.99 or Transmission Flush: $89.99. Follow your manufacturer’s recommendations only, not a dealer’s or repair shop’s menu.

Summary of Charges

The last part of an auto repair estimate is the summary of charges. It’s usually found in the bottom right hand corner of the invoice. Check it against the charges above to ensure that it all adds up mathematically, as well as logically.

This basic estimate outline may differ from your particular invoice, which may have other categories such as “Sublet” or “HazMat.”

A sublet charge is added when your auto repair shop uses another vender to fix or repair your car, such as a glass company that replaces your windshield.

A HazMat charge may include waste oil or other disposal fees. Just make sure that the charges are warranted, as again, they too are often calculated off the labor time rather than actual need.

In sum, understanding the “actual” charges, asking the right questions, and breaking down your auto repair costs is the best way to avoid paying excessive car repair prices.

Car Routine Maintenance for Neophytes

Posted by Lexus Fast | Aftermarket | Monday 4 May 2009 6:36 am

Evander Klum
Your car is a very important investment that you would never want it to experience a breakdown especially if it is new and you are also new as a driver.

Aside from your parents’ pieces of advice on road safety, it is also better to read some tips on the magazines or on the internet perhaps. Your parents may be experts on raising kids but they may not be when it comes to vehicular concerns. There are several write ups on car safety, repair and maintenance that you as a neophyte on the road should always keep in mind.

Examples of these tips are as follows:

Read your owner’s manual first. Written there is everything about your car that you need to know and remember always. From the auto parts to the proper repair and maintenance, all are written there. It is also important to obey the manufacturer’s recommended service schedule as written there.

To ensure excellent engine performance, at a good repair shop, have your engine drivability problems corrected. These problems include hard starts, rough idling, stalling, diminished power, etc. It is also much better to replace dirty air, fuel and PCV fuels to ensure a real quality engine performance.

In order to keep moisture from freezing in the fuel line, place a bottle of fuel de-icer in your fuel tank once a month. Remember that moisture formation is prevented in a gas tank that is always filled.

The oil and filter concerns are also specified in your owner’s manual. Change them according to the stated schedule. Most often, they are changed at least every 3,000 miles. This is so if driving is mostly stop-and-go or consists of regular short trips.

Flush and refill the cooling system as recommended in the manual. Needed to be inspected periodically are the level, condition, and the concentration of the coolant. The usually recommended concentration is a 50/50 mix of anti-freeze and water. If you are checking this part by yourself, do not remove the radiator cap until the engine has thoroughly cooled. Let the tightness and condition of drive belts, clamps, and hoses be checked by a reliable auto technician.

To achieve further comfort, the heater and defroster should be in good working condition.

Old windshield blades must be replaced. Buying rubber-clad or winter blades so that ice will not build up is a must in a winter season.

The brakes should be regularly checked. Consult the manual if you can replace the original ones with other brands such as EBC brakes.

Inspect the battery through professional equipment. This is the only appropriate way to detect a weak one. Remove the corrosion from posts and cable connections. Clean the entire surface. Make sure all connections are tightened. These should be your routine. Also check the level of fluid monthly if battery caps are removable.

Removal of cables might damage or loose data or codes on some newer vehicles. For further guidance, it is always safe to check your manual. Contact to acids is dangerous. Avoid contact with corrosive deposits and battery acid by wearing an eye protection and rubber gloves.

Before going out with the car, check all lights and bulb. Burned out bulbs must be replaced immediately. All lenses should be free from road grime. For simple lights cleaning, a dry rag can be used.

Examine the exhaust system for leaks through putting your vehicle on a lift. See to it that the exhaust trunk and floorboards do not have small holes. And take note of this: any sweat in the exhaust is deadly. To avoid this, regularly check the system.

Worn tires are also dangerous. Regularly check them to avoid short tread life, uneven wearing, and cupping. The sidewall should also be checked. Tire pressure should be checked once a month, but be sure tires are in cool condition before checking them. The manufacturer’s recommended rotation must be followed. And remember to always bring with you your spare that is in good condition. The jack, which should also be always present in your tools area, should also be in good condition.

And lastly, in case of emergency, you need to have some equipment to back you up. Always bring with you gloves, boots, blankets, flares, a small shovel, sand or kitty litter, tire chains, a flashlight, and a cell phone. This will further ensure your safety especially that you are a neophyte on the road.

Reading some materials on automotive can further add to your knowledge on cars.

Cars.com Identifies Best Value Cars

Posted by Lexus Fast | Aftermarket | Monday 4 May 2009 1:12 am

Evander Klum
As gasoline prices continue to soar high, the public also continue to find ways to adapt. More and more car buyers are now prioritizing fuel efficiency when looking for a car.

The gas mileage is usually in the top list. Buyers add the sticker price of a car plus its estimated lifetime fuel cost. Through this way, consumers are having a lead as to their total expenses and savings while the car is under their possession.

Patrick Olsen, the managing editor of Cars.com, said that when gasoline prices begin to get high, hybrid cars takes the center stage. According to him, these cars cost less and are very typical for an environment that is aiming for clean air. However, he added that these cars are not affordable to some. He added that there are better choices if one really wants to save money.

Cars.com identified the top 10 vehicles in different car segments that yield the best value on vehicle price and average lifetime fuel costs.

By combining the base sticker price with a fuel cost estimate that is based on the car’s estimated gas mileage, the list of these vehicles was compiled.

As to the fuel cost estimates, it was assumed that the car will be driven 15,000 miles per year. Forty five (45) percent of those miles are on the highway and the 55 percent are on city streets. Per gallon, the cost of regular unleaded gasoline in the estimate is $3.13. Another assumption is that car is owned for eight years, and per gallon, the cost of premium fuel is estimated at $3.44.

Dodge, maker of quality Dodge Dart parts, was included in 3 different segments.

In the compact cars segment, Toyota Yaris ranked 1st with Sticker and Lifetime Fuel cost of $21,451. This car is followed by Hyundai Accent, Kia Rio, Chevrolet Aveo5, Chevrolet Aveo, Nissan Versa, Honda Fit, Toyota Corolla, Saturn Ion, and Kia Spectra.

In the midsize segment, the ranking was as follows: Hyundai Elantra, 1st; Dodge Caliber, 2nd; Toyota Matrix, 3rd; Suzuki Aerio, 4th; Pontiac Vibe, 5th; Toyota Prius, 6th; Kia Optima, 7th; Nissan Altima, 8th; Chevrolet Malibu, 9th; and Hyundai Sonata, 10th.

In full-size cars segment, Chevrolet Impala topped the list. This was followed by Dodge Charger, Ford Five Hundred, Dodge Magnum, Mercury Montego, Toyota Avalon, Buick Lucerne, Kia Amanti, Chrysler 300, and Ford Crown Victoria.

Volvo S40 topped among the luxury with $40,966 as the cost of sticker and life time fuel. Hyundai Azera followed shortly. These two cars were followed by Chrysler Pacifica, Volvo V50, Lexus IS 250, Lincoln MKZ, Volvo V70, Cadillac CTS, Volvo S60, and Mercedes-Benz C230.

The mentioned Volvo, Lexus and Mercedes-Benz luxury cars are recommended to use premium fuel. In the calculations, premium fuel cost is pegged at $3.44 per gallon.

At $33,385, Mazda5 topped the Minivans segment. This was followed by Dodge Caravan, Chevrolet Uplander, Kia Sedona, Chrysler Town and Country, Saturn Relay, Toyota Sienna, Hyundai Entourage, Ford Free Star, and Honda Odyssey.

In increasing order of sticker and lifetime fuel cost, the top SUVs were as follows: Jeep Patriot, Jeep Compass, Kia Storage, Hyundai Tucson, Saturn Vue, Ford Escape, Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, Honda Element, and Saturn Vue Hybrid.

Meanwhile, the Ford Ranger, Toyota Tacoma, Mazda B2300, Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon, Nissan Frontier, Isuzu i-290, Chevrolet Silverado Classic, and the Mazda B300 were the top pick up trucks.

Cars.com has complete information on these vehicles.

Get Only the Best at the Lowest Price With Volvo Aftermarket Parts

Posted by Lexus Fast | Aftermarket | Thursday 30 April 2009 7:46 pm

John Garett
There are a lot of things you should consider before buying parts for your Volvo. These things can be performance, reliability and of course, affordability. Who wouldn’t want to get the best Volvo parts at the lowest price possible? And it’s good to know that there are always possibilities out there, and one of these possibilities is buying Volvo aftermarket parts. The term “aftermarket” refers to the collective network of vendors who design and sell vehicular parts and accessories that are intended to replace the stock manufacturer’s parts. There are two basic reasons behind this. First is to alter the appearance or performance of the vehicle and second is to serve as a straight replacement for a stock item at a lower price, with no intention to cause such a change in appearance or performance. Aftermarket parts are usually certified genuine pre-owned parts. Keep in mind though that second-hand doesn’t translate to second-rate because these aftermarket parts have undergone rigorous quality control tests to be able to meet the highest standards of performance. Volvo aftermarket parts can have the same or higher quality than that of the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) parts because being called aftermarket parts doesn’t mean that they are lower in quality. The only thing that is guaranteed is that they are less expensive than OEM parts and this can be very helpful to those people who want to their Volvo at its best shape without spending too much. When customizing and personalizing your Volvo, Volvo aftermarket parts can also give you the perfect look you want to achieve by providing styling and enhancements available only in the aftermarket. The Volvo after market parts you would want to buy may include your radiator hose that provide a flexible connection for coolant flow between the engine and the radiator, your thermostat which is a wax-pellet type temperature operated valve used to control engine temperature, your brake pad set which provides your car the ability to stop which is an essential mechanism of the car, your brake dust shields which are designed to permanently keep your car’s rims shiny clean to keep brake dust from settling on your wheels, and even your car floor mats which are used to protect your car’s floor from mud, dirt and other foreign objects. Whatever your Volvo needs, aftermarket parts can cater these at lesser price than that of the original parts. However, there are some important things that you need to know before buying your Volvo aftermarket parts. First, you should at least do a background check to know if your dealer is reputable. You can do this by emailing the company and asking a few questions like how long is their business, who is their supplier and what support do they usually offer. Some internet research and information from friends who are well-versed in the subject can also help. But for your Volvo aftermarket parts, it will be really useful if you only buy from trusted Volvo dealers for they offer only certified Volvo aftermarket parts that also come with warranties and technical supports. It’s good to know that you can give your Volvo the best parts without worrying too much of how much it will cost you. When you are on a budget, then buying Volvo aftermarket parts is the best option for you.

Advantages of the Amazing Bmw Hid Car Kit

Posted by Lexus Fast | Aftermarket | Thursday 30 April 2009 12:54 pm

Imran ali
HID or High Intensity Discharge lights have become a standard option in modern cars like BMW, Porsche and Lexus. These lights produce three times more light than ordinary halogen headlights. BMW HID car kit is composed of xenon lights in a complete range of exciting colors. These kits are extremely easy to install and last for a long time. The new BMW models come equipped with HID headlights and therefore the aftermarket car parts industry provides HID xenon lights for the older models. You can select from a wide variety of color temperatures like 10000K for aqua blue, 6000K for crystal white, 8000K for crystal blue and 3000K for golden yellow.

The lights are named after the gas which is present in the tubes known as xenon. Reliable manufacturers produce quality headlights by using these xenon bulbs which produce a high intensity beam. These lights are ideal to be used during the night and in foggy weather. They are designed according to the traffic rules and regulations and therefore there are no legal issues regarding their installation. You can choose any color you want to make your car stand out in a crowd. However, before installing high temperature lights such as 10000K or more make sure you check with your local or state laws regarding permissible headlights intensity.

HID car kits are loved by automobile enthusiasts all over the world because of their many advantages. First of all, they are more bright and lively than ordinary headlights; and secondly, they look attractive and have the ability to convert an ordinary-looking vehicle into a stylish machine. BMW HID kits are not very expensive at all and therefore a lot of people can buy them to customize their cars. These kits are designed to be waterproof and shock proof. They are composed of three parts: ballasts, starters and bulbs. Most of the manufacturers offer a warranty period of 6 months to 2 years on these headlights so that you can buy them without any reservation.

The HID kits also come with complete wiring and an instructions booklet for easy installation. The best thing about these aftermarket car parts is that you don’t need the assistance of a mechanic to install them. They are manufactured according to the latest plug-and-play technology so that the customers wouldn’t have to worry about the technicalities. Most of the BMW HID kits are available in the price range of $100 to $200 depending on their features and color temperature. These headlights are designed for specific car models so make sure you specify your BMW model before ordering these kits.

The beam produced by these high-intensity lights is very close to the natural light. They are therefore considered very safe and can be used to prevent accidents. They also come handy in emergency situations. Xenon lights are not manufactured with a filament and hence they resist vibrations and shocks. The quality of these lights is measured by a unit known as luminous flux. Different colors give different luminous flux readings, for example golden yellow has approximately 3,600 lm, while pure blue has 2,400 lm.

If you want to upgrade your old BMW to a modern vehicle with state-of-the-art features, BMW HID car kit is what you need. It will not only improve the appearance of your car and make it outstanding, but will also prove to be a great modification towards long-term maintenance of your vehicle. Furthermore, these lights are designed to provide more security on the road as they are helpful in preventing accidents and mishaps. Many types of HID kits are available out there in different colors. Choose one according to your style and taste and spice up your ride!

Some Features That Used Cars Can Do Without

Posted by Lexus Fast | Aftermarket | Wednesday 29 April 2009 7:58 pm

Bianca Villares
Buying a used car is cheap. But due to the premise that buying used cars means more savings, most used car buyers are given the excuse to spend a lot more on added features and accessories which are not only expensive but also unnecessary at times. The natural temptation of “new car features” for used cars may seem appealing, but it won’t do much good to your pockets once it gets broken.

If you want to upgrade your used car, check out the following features. Maybe you and your used car can do away without them.

Carputer. It is a general purpose computing platform which basically enables your car to support a number of features. To name a few, the Carputer or CarPC allows your vehicle to play videos, provide location tracking through GPS, enjoy internet connection through an eligible cell phone or wireless connections, and even synchronize files between your desktop and the Carputer. Of course, the benefits of the Carputer come with a hefty price. If you prefer to work and enjoy the perks while driving, better start saving.

High-definition Audio System. For music lovers, a car audio system is an important accessory for personal enjoyment while driving. With cassette players outdated, most car owners prefer audio systems compatible with USB playback support or an I-pod auxiliary port. Good car speakers also give definition to any audio system, and car owners/music buffs can even mount two speakers at the rear and two in the front. But high definition audio support is more of a luxury rather than a necessity. If listening to good music without all the bass and treble is enough for you, then stick to your current audio system.

Body Kits. Aftermarket ground effects parts are called body kits, and they are designed to enclose the gap between the bottom of the fuselage and the ground. Vehicles which include ground effects in its original design allow airflow manipulation in such a way to create a down force on the car, reducing the lift and thus increasing control. However, aftermarket body kits only simulate the appearance of a vehicle in ground effect and usually do not provide significant aerodynamic benefit.

Custom-hinged Doors. Unlike conventional doors hinged at the front-facing edge of the door, custom-hinged doors have fixed hinges located in unique locations. For example, scissor doors have a fixed hinge near the end of the windshield so the door open upwards rather than outward and are useful in tight parking spaces. Aftermarket conversions are becoming popular among car owners who own less exotic automobiles. Though custom-hinged doors are stylish and somewhat useful, the manufacture cost of the door hinge is more than that of a conventional door.

Hubcaps. Also known as the wheel cover or wheel trim, the hubcap is a decorative disk on an automobile wheel that covers at least its central portion. It often bears the trademark or symbol of the maker of the automobile, but more car owners prefer to have them custom-made. Custom-made hubcaps are generally expensive, and most of them have the tendency of falling off due to hitting bumps on a bad road. Though retention systems have been developed, this problem persists until today.

Rather than spending money on features and accessories you can do without, why not spend money on parts that can improve your vehicle’s performance or increase its safety? Keep your used car running for a long time by investing on useful parts wisely and save yourself from spending too much money.

Body Kits – An Essential Car Part That You Can Choose

Posted by Lexus Fast | Aftermarket | Wednesday 29 April 2009 12:17 am

Louie
A car is an assemblage of several parts. They have different functions and use. Before purchasing a car merits and quality of each of them has to be critically examined and evaluated. Body kits are items which are added almost at the end of the process of acquiring a car. But it does not lessen their importance. The same attention has to be paid for selecting them as is paid for other items.

They contribute to and determine the exterior shape of the car. By a careful selection of body kits you can give your car a new look. There is a wide choice of colors and shapes to select from. Others will tend to judge your taste from the looks of your car. You will not like them to carry an unfavorable impression about your taste. A judicious selection of these items will create a favorable impression about you. This shall have to be kept in view while adding body kits.

Body kits are utility items. They prevent serious damage to a car if unfortunately there is an accident. They are therefore to be treated as decorative items that provide safety as well.

Installation of body kits is a simple process. It does not require high technical skill but the fitment has to be proper. Therefore, it has to be done by a professional person who knows his job well is engaged for this purpose. Correct installation of body kits is important.

Body kits are low cost items. They provide value for money. Money spent on them is money well spent if adequate care is taken in selecting and installing them.

Over the years there had been innovations in the designs of body kits. They are now available in innumerable shapes and colors. You can easily look for them online. You can learn more about them at www.ilovebodykits.com. At the end you will have a car of which you can be proud. Others will admire it and recognize it as your car. It will bring your personality in focus.

If you will pay attention most of the cars that impress you as great looking are likely to have body kits installed.

Miata: the ‘chick Car’ Pulls More Testosterone

Posted by Lexus Fast | Aftermarket | Monday 27 April 2009 10:27 pm

Margaret Adams
‘Chick car’ – that was the coined name for Mazda MX-5 Miata. The term means a car intended for women. Another reason is that most Miata owners are women. However, the most doable reason is the car’s grace, style and sophistication. These factors are the reasons why Miata made it big in the auto industry.

The third generation of Miata was produced last year. Though Miata appears closely similar to its predecessor, the third generation shares no components with the previous generation except for the side-panel turning-lights incorporated to cars made available for the European market. Additionally, OEM and aftermarket Mazda Miata parts are enhanced and upgraded to perform and look better. The 4-wheel double wishbone setup of the suspension is altered to pave way for a more powerful front wishbone/rear multilink setup. To improve driveabiity, traction and stability controls were added.

The automaker enhanced the exterior of the car by utilizing brawny yet clean profile. For the United States and Australia, the engine used by Miata was the new 16-valve, 2.0-litre MZR I4, generating 170 horsepower and 140 ftlbf of torque. It is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission for better car performance. For Europe Miatas, the automaker offered 2 engines – 2.0-litre MZR that produces 160 horsepower and 188 Nm of torque; and a new 1.8 MZR, generating 126 horsepower and 167 Nm, torque. The latter is coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission.

Last July, Mazda unleashed a coupe convertible version of the Miata. Further, included in the brand new Mazda Miata body parts is the 3-piece folding hardtop. Said new feature added 37 kilograms to the weight of the car nonetheless; it is deemed a ‘wow factor’ of Miata. It only takes 11 seconds to operate the retractable hardtop and it does not seize too much trunk space so loading capabilities of the car is not compromised.

Mazda Miata is an icon in the affordable drop-top class. Since its introduction in 1989, Miata has established a long-running success. Up until now, the car is still a big hit in the auto industry. Aside from a new engine, Miata was also given bigger wheels, and other cutting-edge auto parts.

Miata is also called MX-5, which is macho-sounding. It is way far from the traditional ‘chick car’ stigma attached to Miata. In addition, its new package offers more thrill and escapades, great torque, and superb road feel. Indeed, it can pull more testosterone.

How to Select the Best Carpet for Your Car?

Posted by Lexus Fast | Aftermarket | Friday 24 April 2009 1:46 pm

Sarah Johns
All of us agree that nothing can be more disgusting in a car than dirty carpet emanating a foul odor. If you have spilled some beverage or motor oil or any other liquid on your vehicle’s carpet, you might as well replace the whole carpet instead of trying to clean it.  Actually many people find it cost-effective to replace their car carpet, instead of trying to clean the dirt or remove smell from a soiled auto carpet.

You can select a car carpet custom molded to fit the form and pattern of your car’s floor pan. So, there is no need to buy a flat automotive carpet and struggle to fit it to the bumps and ridges of your car’s floor. Buying custom-built car carpet will make the job much easier and will also fit in perfectly. Sometimes, if you have a newer model of vehicle, you can still buy carpet from the manufacturer, but in most cases the original OEM auto carpet will be 4 or 5 times more expensive than replacement carpet, and the quality of the carpet fibers may also be of inferior quality.

It is important to know that there are two types of automobile carpet backing. Most new cars have a type of padding called Massback. It is black, heavy foam-like and this backing is added to improve heat and sound insulation.  Whereas most aftermarket car carpets are made with a thin, plastic backing that does little by way of padding or heat/sound insulation.

An important choice you will have to make is the grade of carpet to buy? The choice you make might understandably depend on how much money you wish to spend.  Price verses durability is the key factor to consider to ensuring you buy the right car carpet. Generally, carpet is graded by the materials used, the fiber type, the fiber weight, the tuft twist and how well it is constructed   with regard to three basic things – fiber, density and twist. Carpets can be made from many different fibers. You have five basic synthetic fibers to choose from: nylon, polypropylene, polyester, polyester made from recycled materials, Blend (a combination of two fibers).

The main problem is many carpet salespeople will not help you make the right fiber choices. They either do not have sufficient knowledge, or just don not bother what fiber you select. Density is how thick the carpet is. Generally, the thicker the better, but the pile height also plays a role in how long the carpet will look like new and how easy it is to clean and vacuum. Better quality carpets have a density rating of 2000 or more. In carpets, fibers are grouped together and twisted to form tufts. The amount of twist each tuft has is important. Some carpets have a tighter twist which makes the carpet more durable and look like new longer.

Make sure to pull the new auto carpet right out of the box as soon as it arrives, since it has a tendency to roll up and get crammed otherwise. The auto carpet will need about 24-48 hours to relax and regain its shape. Sometimes, letting it sit in a warm room, or direct sunlight will help speed up this process.

As regards the color of car carpets, you can choose the color according to your requirement, and there is no price variation. What is more, if you want to add your logo on the seat cushion/mat or change its dimension, the dealers will be able to comply with your request.

How to Remove an Aftermarket Wood Dash Kit From Your Car

Posted by Lexus Fast | Aftermarket | Tuesday 21 April 2009 6:50 pm

Mike Briglia
You’re right to expect that this will be quite a bit of work, but it’s something you can definitely do at home if you have some time and patience. Bottom line, it can get messy and it is time consuming, so there are a few ground rules that we need to set first before you begin this project.

Here’s what you’ll need –

1. Plenty of time

2. Heat gun or hair dryer

3. Goof Off (or similar glue remover)

4. Lots of clean rags

5. Replacement dash trim kit (maybe)

First, the big question. Are you absolutely sure its an aftermarket wood dash kit? These instructions only apply to an aftermarket installed wood dash kit. These type kits are overlays, (usually installed at the local car dealerships) and can be removed with some persuasion. However if you have a factory installed dash kit, and by factory I mean installed at the manufacturing plant level (not the dealership) you can not remove the kit without replacing the entire dash part. The wood will not separate from the dash in this instance. If you are sure its an add-on aftermarket dash kit then we are good to go.

Second, be sure to pick a day when you have a good block of time open because this is not something you can rush. So that means that you need to pick a day that you are off from work, and no doctor or dentist appointments. Also, you need to be prepared to (more than likely) reinstall a replacement dash kit to cover up any markings left by the old kit that you are removing. Sometimes you can get lucky and it wont leave any marks, but most of the time there will be some type of markings such as outlines or discoloration of the dash.

To begin, you’ll want to use a hair dryer and try to heat up the wood dash kit as much as possible. That will soften the glue to some extent, and you can try to start pulling up a corner of the dash piece slowly and lifting it off. and it is important that you really warm it up good or it will be very hard and brittle, making it tougher and more time consuming to remove. I wouldnt use any sharp tools here, though you will be tempted to do so. Try just using your fingers to pull, as anything sharp used will likely damage your dash.

Take your time! Once you get a piece off you will more than likely be left with some glue or adhesive. Warm that up again and try to remove that best as you can without any solvents (just the first step). Then, when you do need some solvent, try a glue remover like goof-off (available at home improvement stores such as Home Depot) but be very careful where you wipe it. If you get that on any of your new surfaces you may get some discoloration. Just be careful and use it sparingly. A damp rag is much better in this case than a dripping wet one. If you need to use a soft rubber squeegee to agitate the adhesive with the solvent, that is okay – but steer clear of razors or metal objects. You will damage your interior with those.

If you are uncomfortable performing this task or find that you do not have enough experience, we always recommend professionals to to this project. Call your local body shop and discuss further options with them so you dont damage your vehicle.

Original Parts VS Aftermarket Parts

Posted by Lexus Fast | Aftermarket | Thursday 16 April 2009 11:20 pm

Amy Nutt
Many debate whether or not original automobile parts or aftermarket parts are better when a vehicle must be repaired. Some may believe that the original parts are better since they are made by the manufacturer, but others claim that the aftermarket parts are equal to or even better than the original parts. So which is it? Is it just a matter of opinion or is there fact to either one of these claims?

There may be one factor that affects whether or not a repair shop may use the original or aftermarket parts and that is state regulation. Each state has different regulations regarding which parts can be used on a vehicle. This is because the state regulates the insurance industry and if the state allows, the insurance company you are with may allow the use of aftermarket parts, which could play to your advantage. You may or may not be asked permission, depending on your state. Then again, there are situations in which you can make the decision yourself, especially if the insurance company is not involved.

Original parts

It is fair to say that some original parts are up to par and some are not. Many times a vehicle breaks down because of something that is wrong with the original parts. This is also true when a recall occurs. This may deter an automobile owner from using the original parts if they have that choice. If it is a recall that is leading to the replacement of the part, the dealership making the repair or replacement will use what they are instructed to use.

But when you go to a local parts store, you are usually given options as to which parts to use. They will more than likely quote you the price of an economy part that will save you money, the original part that is just like the part you are replacing, and a more expensive part that costs more because it is of a better quality. Some people may go for the original part since it was made by the manufacturer, but is that always the best way to go?

Aftermarket parts

Let’s look at the other two parts: the economy part and the part that is more expensive. These are aftermarket parts. There are many aftermarket parts at the economy price that perform well and sometimes this performance can be equal to or better than the performance of the original. Then there is the more expensive aftermarket part, which more than likely performs better than the original. You can possibly get a longer life out of that aftermarket part than you can the economy part or the original. It may cost more, but the cost is usually not a significant amount more than the original part.

What it comes down to is that the price difference becomes worth it because you will not have to replace the part as quickly as you did the original part on the car. These parts also frequently come with guarantees or lifetime warranties so that you can have the part replaced for free if it prematurely fails.

The benefits

So it is fair to say that purchasing an aftermarket part is more cost-effective than buying the exact same part that failed. Unless modifications have been made by the manufacturer to keep that part from failing in the same way, you can count on the part failing in the same manner as it did the first time. You can save yourself many headaches by investing in the aftermarket part that has made improvements on the failures of the original.

Contacting With A Car Salvage Company On Time Is Crucial

Posted by Lexus Fast | Aftermarket | Sunday 12 April 2009 4:25 am

Sam Loyal
There is absolutely no doubt about the fact that people do everything to take care of their car. There are some people who do so as they want to stay away from spending a lot of money on their car. On the other hand, there are people who just love their car and spend a lot of money on making it look wonderful after years.

It doesn’t matter if you love to spend money on your car or not you will have to face different problems after few years of use. On some occasions cars can deteriorate a lot which is the reason why there remains no other choice but to sell them.

Here, it is crucial to mention that sometimes condition of a car can become extremely bad and even scrap merchants don’t like buying these cars. Since people don’t like to these types of cars to have in their backyards, they actually have to give some money to these merchants to take such cars from their backyards.

The best thing to do:

Up until now, you must have gathered the fact that cars can sometimes become a big problem for you. Since you have to pay some money to scrap merchants, it is better to take actions on right time. What it means is that you must always try to sell your car in repairable situation. There are people who believe that there car is still in a good condition. These are the people who don’t understand that they can actually earn some money by selling their car on right time.

Actually, there are several car salvage companies which offer some money to those who sell their car in right conditions. Generally, these companies offer money according to the condition of your car. If your car has gone through some accident, it will still have value for some of the scrap merchants. These merchants usually take some of the parts out of your car to sell as aftermarket parts.

So, you must sell your car without wasting a lot of time but finding a right company is the key to success. You can find these types of companies over the internet. Just conduct a simple search by using some keyword like, “sell my car” and you will find loads of sites offering their assistance in selling your car.

The fact of the matter is that if you don’t want to lose a lot of money by keeping your car in your hand for long time, you must get in touch with some car salvage company. There are some companies which offer some money to take these cars from your backyard.

Why Choose Remus Exhaust for Your Car?

Posted by Lexus Fast | Aftermarket | Thursday 9 April 2009 3:50 am

Robert
an Austria-based muffler maker that has been designing, manufacturing, and selling world class exhaust systems for quite a few years. They are an excellent choice of exhaust brands if you’re looking to add performance and a great sounding exhaust tone to your vehicle! Another great benefit is this company makes all of their exhausts out of stainless steel, and they add a high-temperature veneer to protect the stainless steel. This manufacturing process makes for a truly long lasting and enduring, high quality exhaust. You can be pretty much guaranteed that these exhausts will outlast the life of your vehicle. Not to mention Remus builds some of the best sounding, high tonal exhausts on the market.

The History of Remus & Their Manufacturing Process:

Remus designed their first exhaust system and began operations in Germany where they designed exhaust solutions for motorcycles and “crotch rockets”. Eventually the company’s product line evolved to include exhaust systems for performance car applications as well. The Remus manufacturing process begins with the shaping of various raw materials such as aluminum, stainless steel, and carbon fiber. These materials are then converted into an exhaust system using the organization’s state of the art laser-guided, computer controlled cutting system as well as various CNC machines. The company then goes on to the next phase of the development process which is the sound tuning and testing of the exhaust systems.

Remus-One of a Kind Sound

Of all of the benefits and advantages of Remus systems, the most discussed in the aftermarket world is the sound these exhausts produce. Unlike many aftermarket exhaust systems-Remus provides a deep, throaty sound that will differentiate your car from the “ricey” high pitched tune of many cheaper knockoff products. Many aftermarket enthusiasts have compared the sound of Remus to that of a Ferrari or Lamborghini! In fact, if you’re looking for proof just visit many of the YouTube videos that display the exhaust systems high quality sound. There are numerous videos of Remus Exhausts exemplifying the true enhancement in overall sound quality. In addition, Remus provides better customer service then most competitors and has a great reputation for top notch service.
